BBC to tackle disability in new season of programmes

Written by Don Westbury – Friday, 24 February 2012 17:30

The BBC is to tackle disability in the 21st century with a new season of themed programmes.

Beyond Disability is a new BBC One / Radio 5 live documentary season that captures the compelling stories of disabled people and their families as they take on everyday life and new challenges. Tackling the reality of what it means to be disabled in the 21st century, Beyond Disability recounts the very personal experiences of individuals and families as they enter new phases of their lives.

“BBC One has always been committed to exploring the lives of people who are disabled and this season is about ordinary disabled people dealing with the same everyday challenges that everyone faces – leaving home, choosing a career, raising a family. BBC One brings together a personal collection of stories about what it means to live a life not just defined by physical or mental limitations.” – Maxine Watson, Executive Producer

BBC One follows Nic Hamilton (born with cerebral palsy) in his first season as a racing driver, while Rosa Monckton speaks to parents facing the challenge of allowing their children with learning disabilities to live independent lives.

Rita Simons wants to make the best decision for her profoundly deaf five-year-old daughter, while comedian Laurence Clark and his wife make the decision to have a second child, despite both having cerebral palsy. They lay bare the joys and hurdles of disabled parenting

Stephen Hawking 's regular symposium on G-String Theory?

Stephen Hawking Sex Club Rumor of the Day: Famous physicist Stephen Hawking is a frequent guest at a California sex club, according to RadarOnline.com.

A regular at the Freedom Acres swingers club in Devore, CA, says the wheelchair-bound Hawking brings an entourage of nurses and assistants to the club with him, and they supervise the action as Hawking takes advantage of the club’s services.

“Last time I saw him he was in the back ‘play area’ laying on a bed fully clothed with two naked women gyrating all over him,” said the source, who added, “He’ll even take photos with people in the club as long as it’s in a neutral area.”

Hawking, who recently turned 70, told New Scientist magazine in January that women are “a complete mystery” to him.

If these rumors are accurate, it sounds like Professor Hawking’s studies of the subject are ongoing.

Mind Controlled Vehicles

Chaos Moon Labs broke new ground earlier this year with their Kinect-powered skateboard, the Board of Awesomeness, but now they’ve moved on to something even more awesome: a mind-controlled board that they call The Board of Imagination.

The Board of Imagination is powered by an on-board Samsung tablet running Windows 8, which is connected to an Emotiv headset.

Once the headset has been trained, the rider can focus on a point in the distance and think about how fast he wants to get there, and the board will do the rest.
